Vertice Projects was commissioned to transform the Sandeman’s Room into a refined whisky lounge, creating an intimate and luxurious destination that complements the character and heritage of Fonab Castle.

The project focused on delivering a warm, sophisticated atmosphere where guests can relax, enjoy premium whiskies, cocktails and conversation in an elegant setting. Every element was carefully considered to balance traditional Scottish charm with contemporary luxury.

Scope of Works

  • Complete refurbishment and redesign of the Sandeman’s Room.
  • Installation of a bespoke central whisky bar with handcrafted timber finishes.
  • Creation of illuminated premium whisky display shelving showcasing an extensive collection.
  • Installation of suspended glassware storage and feature lighting above the bar.
  • Luxury herringbone timber flooring throughout the lounge.
  • Bespoke wall panelling and architectural detailing to enhance the castle’s character.
  • Carefully selected designer furniture including lounge seating, booth seating and bar stools to maximise comfort.
  • Feature fireplace restoration and integration as the focal point of the lounge.
  • Decorative lighting scheme providing warm ambient illumination throughout.
  • Styling and finishing of soft furnishings, artwork and accessories to create a welcoming, premium environment.
  • Space planning to encourage both intimate seating and social gathering around the bar.
  • Full project coordination from concept through to completion.

Result

The completed Sandeman’s Whisky Lounge offers guests a luxurious yet relaxed environment, perfectly suited for enjoying Scotland’s finest whiskies. Rich timber finishes, ambient lighting, bespoke joinery and carefully curated furnishings combine to create a timeless space that enhances the overall guest experience at Fonab Castle.

The transformation delivers a destination lounge that reflects the prestige of the hotel while providing an inviting atmosphere for whisky tastings, evening drinks and quiet relaxation.
